Meet the Team

Tim Wright - Hospital Manager

Tim joined Cygnet Oaks in January 2019 following a successful 21 year career in the NHS. Tim qualified as a mental health nurse in 1996 before going on to study for a BMedSci (Hons) in Forensic Mental Health.

Specialising in the field of secure mental health care, he has taken on many roles from staff nurse, senior staff nurse, clinical team leader, modern matron and hospital security manager. More recently in 2013 Tim studied for and obtained the role of local security management specialist (LSMS) for a large NHS mental health trust.

Tim is always open to new ideas in terms of service user focused outcomes, engaging individuals in meaningful activity and promoting the care pathway to independent living. Tim is also a level 1 table tennis coach and always keen to get others into the sport.

Dr Shaharyar Alikhan – Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director

Shaharyar has worked as a psychiatrist for over 20 years, specialising in General Adult Psychiatry and Substance Misuse. He joined Cygnet Oaks as Medical Director for the male rehabilitation services in the North, in June 2022, having worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS and independent sector in Yorkshire since 2008. Prior to his current appointment at Cygnet, Shaharyar worked as Medical Lead for the West Locality Community Mental Health Teams in Leeds, and was involved in the CMHT Transformation project.

Shaharyar graduated as a doctor from the University of Bristol Medical School, and undertook his Basic and Higher Specialist Training in Psychiatry in Birmingham and Leeds. Along with his medical qualifications (MBChB) and Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych), Shaharyar holds the additional qualification of Master of Laws (LLM) in Mental Health Law. He is an Approved Clinician/Section 12 doctor in terms of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007).

Shaharyar is passionate about mental health rehabilitation, and helping service users in their recovery through their work with all modalities of high quality therapies and treatment available to suit their clinical needs.

In his spare time, Shaharyar enjoys listening to music and likes to try to keep fit with walking and cycling.

Faye Rothery – Head of Care, The House

Faye commenced her journey into nursing in 2011 by undertaking a Mental Health Nursing degree. During the years of study, Faye gained essential experience in physical health to contribute to her skills as a mental health nurse by working as a health care assistant in a general hospital and senior carer at a residential care home. Faye began working for Cygnet as a preceptorship nurse, progressing to staff nurse and then senior staff nurse.

Faye was appointed Cygnet Oaks latest Head of Care in December 2018. Faye is committed to assisting individuals to engage in their care pathway in order to achieve a successful discharge to the next chapter of their rehabilitation journey.

Richard Griffiths – Head of Care, The Lodge

Richard started working for Cygnet in September 2009, commencing his journey in the mental health field as a support worker. Richard went on to study mental health nursing at Nottingham University in 2011 and successfully qualified in 2014. Upon qualifying Richard worked a short period at Cygnet Sherwood House before transferring to Cygnet Oaks to broaden his knowledge and skill set.

Richard has worked at Cygnet Oaks since March 2015 and during that time has progressed through the ranks to a senior nurse and more recently Head of Care. Richard is responsible for ensuring that service users receive high quality care, whilst supporting staff members to achieve their optimum potential.

David Marshall - Clinical Psychologist

David has worked within Cygnet services since 2020 and moved to Cygnet Oaks in December 2021 in the Clinical Psychologist role. David has worked in mental healthcare since 2007 and has enjoyed a number of roles in a variety of services both in the community and in hospital settings which have ultimately led to his qualification as Clinical Psychologist in 2016.

Since this time he has worked in medium and low Secure inpatient, brain injury rehabilitation and mental health rehabilitation services where he has built on his growing sense of satisfaction from working in inpatient care and rehabilitation. David’s main passion in his work comes from the opportunities he has to work with service-users and multidisciplinary teams to improve the care provided and maximise the recovery outcomes for people who are admitted to hospital. He has sought to extend his knowledge of psychological approaches, therapies and ways to support people with complex needs through further training and has recently completed a course in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Fiona Batty - Specialist Occupational Therapist

Fiona graduated with a MSC in Occupational Therapy from Sheffield Hallam University in 2016. Fiona began her career in Cygnet as a newly qualified occupational therapist in a low secure unit for men diagnosed with personality disorder. Fiona later joined Cygnet Oaks in 2018 as a junior occupational therapist and was appointed as a specialist occupational therapist in 2020 and currently leads the occupational therapy department. Fiona is passionate about empowering service users to achieve their goals and engage in a treatment programme that will enable them to progress toward their discharge. Fiona is enthusiastic about service development as well as supporting occupational therapy staff in their professional development. Fiona has led a number of service development projects and is looking forward to developing a new sensory garden in the coming months.

Cygnet Oaks’ Earthquake Appeal

John, a service user at Cygnet Oaks and Meena, Therapy Coordinator have been working together to collect donations and raise money to support those affeced by the Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
