Redlands

122 Woodland Road, Darlington, County Durham, DL3 9LP

Based in Darlington, County Durham, Redlands is a specialist residential service supporting up to five individuals who are living with a learning disability and complex needs, and can also support those with associated mental or physical health needs.

Redlands is a large detached house set in a large garden, close to the market town of Darlington. There is a choice of living and dining areas for people to use and a large kitchen for preparing food. Everyone has their own bedroom, which they are supported to decorate and personalise.

Promoting an individual’s independence is very important to the team and people are encouraged to prepare food and drink for themselves and their visitors. Developing self-care and daily living skills is a key element of daily life at Redlands. Externally there is an established garden with a patio and seating areas for residents to relax on their own or with visitors.

Within walking distance from Redlands are local amenities including shops, a post office, cafés and pubs. Also a short distance away is Darlington town centre, offering many more community facilities for individuals to access, including leisure centres, social clubs, shops, colleges, and work placement settings.

Redlands has a dedicated activity coordinator who supports residents to have individual activity plans, which are created based on each person’s likes and hobbies. Their goal is to enable people to structure their time, build relationships and establish a balance between therapy, self-care, work and leisure, as appropriate to their individual needs.

People may come to Redlands for a number of reasons. They may be moving on following a stay at an NHS or other specialist learning disability service, or may need more support than can be offered in a supported living environment. It may also be that they require a little extra support during a difficult period in their life, or they could be on a pathway to a place of their own.
