Old Leigh House

3 Old Leigh Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, SS9 1LB

Old Leigh House is a residential service with nursing located in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex. The service supports up to seven men who are living with a learning disability and associated complex needs, who may have a forensic background. Old Leigh House can also support those with additional mental health needs and behaviours perceived as being challenging.

Old Leigh House is a large semi-detached house that overlooks a park in a residential area of Leigh-on-Sea. It is not far away from the sea front and beaches. The service has a choice of lounges and communal areas for people to choose from and a small garden at the back of the house. The house has been specially adapted and has an accessibility lift for those who come to us with mobility needs.

When individuals come to Old Leigh House we find out how they would like to personalise their room and we support them to do that. We also like to find out what they like to do and what interests them. Residents are supported to plan menus, shop and prepare food with support to increase their daily living skills in readiness for moving on.

The home benefits not only from being close to the seafront and local parks, but also from being near local shops and amenities. There is a large and varied choice of outdoor activities locally, including bowling, the local gym, cafés and shops. Local colleges provide a range of educational courses and there are opportunities for paid or voluntary work placements.

Our goal is to enable individuals to structure their time, build relationships and establish a balance between therapy, self-care, work and leisure, as appropriate to their individual needs. Community based activities allow residents opportunities to meet others, have new experiences, participate in leisure activities and practice social skills. Activities depend on individual preferences and can include a variety of community based and educational choices.

We work hard with the individuals we support, their families and those closest to them to find out what is important to them and what their hopes and dreams are for the future. This is part of our commitment to use every opportunity we can to hear and act on the views of those we support and those who know and care about them.
