Meet the Team

Samantha Barrow - Hospital Manager

Sam qualified as a nurse in 2004, and started her career with Greater Manchester West NHS Foundation Trust, at the Meadowbrook Unit in Salford, for clients requiring acute admissions and PICU. In 2007 Sam gained promotion with The Priory Group as a Senior Nurse in their Eating Disorders Unit at Bury, where after 6 months she was promoted to Acting Unit Manager and then Unit Manager. In 2011 when services in Bury changed Sam became the Unit Manager of the Male service for Challenging Behaviours.

Sam joined Cygnet from the Priory Group in December 2013, initially as the Ward Manager for Denholme Ward at Cygnet Hospital Bierley before being promoted to Clinical Manager. Sam was then appointed hospital manager of Cygnet Lodge Salford in late 2019. Sam has a keen interest in patient involvement and recovery focused models of care.

Sophie Wood – Head of Care

Sophie qualified as a Registered Nurse(Mental Health) in 2010. She worked within Child and Adolescent Services as a qualified nurse and Ward Manager. Sophie joined Cygnet Hospital Wyke in December 2018 from the governance department where she had spent the previous three years focusing on internal reviews and practice development. Sophie joined the team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley as Quality and Compliance Lead in autumn 2019 before being appointed as Head of Care at Cygnet Lodge Salford in June 2020.

Dr Mary Marcos - Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Morcos joined Cygnet in February 2019 as a consultant psychiatrist for Cygnet Lodge Salford. Prior to that Mary worked as a community consultant psychiatrist for 11 years in one of the most deprived areas of Manchester.

Mary originally completed her post graduate training and qualifications within the North West services, these are Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, MPhil in Psychiatry from Manchester University, CBT certificate from Salford and Manchester Universities and CCST from the North West deanery with endowment in Rehabilitation.

Mary has a particular passion about building a positive therapeutic relationship with service users with empathy and understanding of their needs.

Donna Coyle - Head of Occupational Therapy

Donna is the Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist at Cygnet Salford Lodge. She left Ireland to pursue her career in Occupational Therapy graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2009 with a BSC (Hons) degree. She has over 10 years’ experience in the NHS, working in a range of different mental health settings including community and inpatient services.

Donna’s motivation and passion for her profession have resulted in a keen interest in service development. She has developed several Therapy Teams across Acute settings, and designed service development pathways. As a result this has motivated individuals towards a positive change in culture.

She continues to further her professional development having completed a level 5 management and leadership course, Modules in CBT approaches, and in 2019 was awarded “OT of the Year” at her previous trust. Donna is enthusiastic about contributing too and improving the service user experience.

Dr Sofia Sykinioti – Head of Psychology

Sofia is an integrative practitioner and some of the approaches I use include EMDR, PCT, CBT, and DBT. She has worked in various different settings and has experience developing psychological services in mental health rehabilitation services. Sofia has experience working with complex mental health difficulties, acquired brain injury, eating disorders, international students, and people in acute psychiatric wards.

Sofia completed her graduate training in 2014 and proceeded to post-graduate studies in England and Scotland. She completed her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Manchester. Sofia has presented her academic work at national and international conferences, has worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Chester, and is a published author. Sofia has experience of organising CPD training and networking events, and has been the committee chair of the British Psychological Society, division of Counselling Psychology north-west branch for 2020.
