Meet the Team

Clare Heaton - Hospital Manager

Clare initially joined Cygnet Lodge Brighouse as Ward Manager having previously worked for Greater Manchester West NHS Foundation Trust, where she developed a jointly commissioned Ministry of Justice and NHS personality disorder service for female offenders. Clare also has experience of working within forensic inpatient, outpatient and custodial environments with a specialism in personality disorder and DBT.

Liam Hogg - General Manager

Liam graduated in 2012 with a degree in Law (LLB Hons) from Leeds Beckett University. Prior to Joining Cygnet Health Care in 2015 he worked in financial services before spending some time with the RNLI and then in the leisure industry, working in France.

Liam joined Cygnet through the Management Trainee program. During his first year he spent time working with each of the head office functions, gaining valuable experience within the finance, governance, commercial/sales and operational teams, building links with staff across the company. He went on to develop his operational experience at Cygnet Hospital Beckton and then as the Assistant General Manager at Cygnet Hospital Godden Green. Liam was appointed as the General Manager at Cygnet Hospital Bierley at the end of 2017. In addition Liam also acts as General Manager for Cygnet Hospital Wyke and Cygnet Lodge Brighouse.

Katie Gray - Head of Care

Katie qualified as a learning disability nurse and had previously worked with adults who have profound and multiple learning disabilities prior to joining Cygnet. She was one of the first learning disability nurses that joined Cygnet Lodge. Katie joined rehabilitation services as a staff nurse before progressing to Clinical Team Leader and later to Head of Care.

Kerri Kellett - Administration Manager

Kerri started working at Wyke in January 2008 as a Medical Secretary. In August 2015 she successfully interviewed for the post of Administration Manager.

She gained AMSPAR Medical Receptionist and Medical Secretary Diplomas which put her in good stead for the Medical Secretary role in the busy Cardiothoracic Department at The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, where she worked for nine years before relocating to Yorkshire.

Kerri loves her new role and feels that she has a great Administration Team. She finds it beneficial to have experience in most of the roles she manages and has extensive knowledge and skills relevant to assist her. She currently manages Wyke’s Reception, our Medical Secretaries and the Ward Clerk’s at Wyke and Brighouse.

Shaun Stevenson - Therapy Manager & Substance Misuse Practitioner

Shaun joined Cygnet Health Care in 2012. Prior to this he worked for 19 years with the Ministry of Justice, holding a number of roles focusing on rehabilitative work. He has facilitated and managed a wide range of offending behaviour programmes using a CBT approach. For the past 9 years Shaun’s specialist area of work has been the development and management of substance misuse programmes in custodial and community settings. He is an experienced trainer of substance misuse workers for CBT group work.

Miriam Sykes - Occupational Therapist

Miriam is a Senior I Occupational Therapist at Cygnet Lodge Brighouse. She qualified from the University of East Anglia with a BSc in Occupational Therapy, and in 2015 she completed her MSc in Mental Health Practice. She has worked for Cygnet Hospital Wyke and Cygnet Lodge Brighouse since 2010, as part of the Occupational Therapy team, on both the Female Low Secure ward and the Rehabilitation unit.

Miriam coordinates the group therapy programme, which aims to develop skills and interests to support service users to live in a community setting. She supports service users to develop activities of daily living, such as cooking, budgeting, and maintaining a routine. There are opportunities to gain vocational skills through courses and work placements, which the Occupational Therapist will explore with the service user. Miriam enjoys working with the service users and developing activities which are helpful for each individual.

Cordy Askew - Art Therapist

Cordy Askew is a state registered art therapist with over 14 years post qualifying experience working with people who have mental health problems. Cordy moved to Yorkshire in 2005 to take up a job with Cygnet. Cordy currently works at Cygnet Lodge Brighouse offering individual art therapy treatment.

Carla Davey – HR Assistant

Carla recently joined Cygnet Hospital Wyke and Cygnet Lodge Brighouse after gaining over 2 years’ experience in Recruitment within the public and private sector. Carla graduated in 2015 with a First Class Honours Degree in Human Resource Management.

Carla’s main role is to support Cygnet Hospital Wyke and Cygnet Lodge Brighouse with their HR function including recruitment and retention of staff as well as being responsible for providing the best training development and activities for all staff within the units.
