Information for Carers & Visitors

Wyke (61)

At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we recognise that it is important for service users to keep in contact with their relations and friends.

What to expect on arrival

Monday to Friday visitors will need to ring the doorbell of the Main Entrance, out of office hours visitors will need to buzz on the intercom system of the new building to gain entry to the hospital. The receptionist will ask who you are visiting and ask you to sign in the visitors book and take a seat. The ward will be contacted on your behalf via reception; a staff member from that ward will greet you in reception and from here take you to an allocated visitors room which is based off the ward. Some visits will be supervised by a member of our nursing team.

Visiting Times

Visiting times are determined by each ward, telephone 01274 605500 for more information. Visits must be booked 24 hours in advance. Service User agreement must take place prior to visits being granted. Visits will go ahead at the discretion of the nurse in charge.

A Smoke Free Environment

As of Monday 4th January 2016 Cygnet Hospital Wyke will be classed as a ‘smoke-free environment’. This means that no person will be permitted to smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds, this includes the car parks, the grounds and the hospital courtyards.

This new change in policy is applicable to all members of staff, visitors to the sites and all service users in our care. The implication of this is that service users will not be able to smoke their cigarettes whilst they are on the hospital grounds, unless they have adequate Section 17 leave to allow them to leave the premises.

Carers Questions

At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we recognise the value and importance of Carers involvement in their relatives care.

We have a number of avenues such as Ward Rounds and Care Programme Approach meetings whereby carers can attend and pose questions to the Multi-Disciplinary Team. However, there will be occasions when you think of a question and we feel it important that you have a way of asking it.

If you have any questions you can contact Richard Carroll, Hospital Manager, on the following e-mail address – [email protected] who will endeavour to answer your questions as soon as possible.

Children

Before a child visit takes place the ward attached Therapeutic Social Worker is required to liaise with the family (by telephone, visit or letter) and if necessary with the Care Co-ordinator and the referring team.

A short assessment (verbal or written) ought to be provided for the members of the MDT in order to reach a final decision regarding the visit.

Children under the age of 16 may visit only when accompanied by an adult (who is a non-patient). Visits by children are to take place off the ward, the nurse in charge will allocate a safe room.

Parking

There are two car parks which can both be used by visitors to Cygnet Hospital Wyke, these spaces are a short walk away from the main entrance. Disabled bays are also available; these are located close to the main entrance. Parking in any of these car parks is free of charge.
