Greenacre Ward supports men in a low secure and safe environment where people can receive specialist assessment and treatment alongside, if needed, intensive rehabilitation. We can support people who often experience behaviours which are challenging – including self-harm or aggression and those who may be considered a risk to others or who have been involved in the criminal justice system. View our latest bed availability Support and Outcomes The team supports the focus on recovery, reducing the time people have to spend on the ward. Everyone has their own primary nurse and are supported by an extensive MDT including a designated Associate Specialist, Clinical Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant. We use a model of treatment based on the principles of the recovery model of care including psychological therapies, occupational therapy, social therapy, physical healthcare and medication. Risk assessment tools are used and a clinical formulation is developed to inform the management plans for each patient. The hospital can provide care for men who may have complex needs, co-morbidity and those who may experience behaviours which challenge. Every person has a treatment plan and a weekly therapeutic timetable which can include: individual and group psychology, counselling for drug and alcohol misuse, anger management, social skills development, daily living skills development, healthy living, IT skills training, education and vocational development, group games and activities. The approach to personality disorders is based on the common factors of treatment that bring about the greatest change in patients which include quality of engagement, consistency of treatment, validation of feelings and building motivation to change. Our staff are trained to provide a pattern of care that continuously challenges maladaptive patterns of behaviour and provides ongoing opportunities to learn and try out more adaptive courses of action. By applying this therapy to all interactions and relationships, we can successfully address the impact of personality disorder. Minimising length of stay is a key focus and Greenacre Ward is part of our integrated men’s pathway of care which aims to smooth transitions and shorten lengths of stay and includes our male mental health rehabilitation service, Cygnet Lodge Woking. Facilities and activities Greenacre Ward offers a range of facilities including outdoor space and social areas and there is also an ADL kitchen, a variety of activity rooms and a gym. The service is both therapeutic and calming whilst remaining vibrant and busy with many activities and on offer. Should service users benefit from a short period of time away from the main group, in order to aid successful integration, then such facilities are available across the hospital.
