Meet the Team

Tom Griffiths – Hospital Director

Tom joined the healthcare sector in 2006 having studied Business Studies at Nottingham Trent University. Tom then went on to successfully complete his Nurse training at the University of Nottingham.

Tom has worked for the organisation since 2007 across multiple roles and service lines. starting out as a support worker at Sherwood House before completing his nursing studies. Tom has worked as a nurse across male mental health, female mental health, female personality disorder, male learning disability and neuropsychiatry.

Tom moved into a management role in 2015 taking on the registration for The Lodge and Grange our Neuropsychiatric Hospitals in Sutton-in-Ashfield, then moved to manage Aspen Clinic our Specialist Female Personality Disorder Service in Mexborough, in September 2019 Tom became the Hospital Director at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield, our CAMHS and Female LSU service.

Lisa Boyles - Clinical Manager

Lisa joined us in 2012, initially as a support worker at Cygnet Storthfield House whilst completing her final year in Mental Health Nursing at Nottingham University. She qualified in 2013 where she started her nursing journey at Cygnet Grange which is a neuropsychology rehab service for males.

Since qualifying Lisa has worked as a nurse across male mental health, female mental health, neuropsychiatry and also has experience working in a male C CAT prison as a Substance Misuse nurse. Following this Lisa returned to neuropsychiatry in 2017. In 2018 was promoted to Head of Care at Cygnet Aspen Clinic our Specialist Female Personality Disorder Service in Mexborough.

Lisa then joined the team at Sheffield in 2020 as ward manager for Pegasus Ward where she really enjoyed working within CAMHs and with the team at Sheffield. In January 2022 Lisa was appointed Clinical Manager for the whole hospital.

Dr Sidhartha Hakim - Medical Director

Dr Hakim is an experienced Consultant Child and Adolescent psychiatrist with experience of providing specialist care to young people in an inpatient environment since 2006. Prior to joining Cygnet Health Care Dr Hakim has contributed to the development of Tier 4 inpatient services in Lincolnshire. With a consistent focus on quality and on improving standards, he has overseen this service progressing to being one of a handful of services nationally, that have received accreditation by Quality Network in Inpatient CAMHS (QNIC).

Dr Hakim is passionate about improving the quality of care provided to patients and families whilst receiving inpatient treatment. As Medical Director Dr Hakim’s focus is on on continuously improving the quality of care provided at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield and getting service users and families actively involved in enabling delivery of excellent quality care.

Sumairaa Hamid – General Manager

After Graduating in BSc Psychology, Sumairaa joined Alpha Hospitals, now Cygnet, as a mental health support worker in October 2011. Whilst working as a support worker she also spent time working at Bury as an Assistant Psychologist as well as studying her MSc in Development Psychology. After completing her studies she decided to take on different roles within the admin sector and was then promoted to Admin manager. Soon after that she completed her Level 5 Visionary Leaders Management Apprenticeship through Cygnet Health Care.

In April 2023, she was appointed General Manager of Cygnet Hospital Sheffield where she is responsible for the management and functioning of all non-clinical areas of the hospital. Sumairaa works closely with all the staff across the hospital and enjoys her role and in doing whatever she can to support the staff and the services across Cygnet Health Care.

Dr Clare Atkinson - Consultant Psychiatrist

Clare started as a consultant in the NHS in 2004 following completion of her higher training in child and adolescent psychiatry in Newcastle upon Tyne and has worked with older adolescents in an outpatient setting since that time and believes strongly that young people need to be active in the decisions that affect their lives whatever setting their care is delivered in.

Prior to joining Cygnet in November 2017 Clare worked in an adolescent crisis team that managed unwell young people in the community so she has a focus on safe early discharge to a less restrictive setting whilst balancing this with an understanding of the risks that cannot be safely managed in the community.

Dr Victoria Khromova - Consultant Psychiatrist

Victoria started as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the NHS in 2015 after completing her Higher Specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Sheffield. Having always enjoyed inpatient work, Victoria started her Consultant career working in a General Adolescent psychiatric inpatient ward at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital where she managed complex mental health difficulties including depression, psychosis, autistic spectrum disorder, eating disorders and emerging personality disorders. She continued to work there until she joined Cygnet in 2020.

Teaching has also been a big passion for Victoria and she completed her MSc in Clinical Education and participated extensively in teaching medical students and other professionals on a range of CAMHS related topics throughout her training and consultant career.

Dr Kumar Buggineni-Surendra - Consultant Psychiatrist

Kumar has been a Consultant Psychiatrist in NHS since 2013 and has had experience of working in community and inpatient settings. Prior to joining Cygnet Hospital Sheffield, he has been a Consultant on an inpatient Acute Female Mental Health Unit for 6 years and has worked with patients with complex mental health difficulties and personality disorders. During this period he contributed to the quality and safety procedures of the ward, leading to it being awarded AIMS accreditation by The Royal College of psychiatrists, a national bench mark for quality and safety. He contributed to the overall performance of the ward, and also the overall service development, in collaboration with the organisation and the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Kumar joined Cygnet Hospital Sheffield to continue his passion for recovery focussed work with patients who have complex mental health issues/ personality disorders, by working in collaboration with other MDT professionals and the wider support system.

Besides clinical work, Kumar is a GMC approved medical educator, medical appraiser and appraiser trainer. He has delivered academic presentations on topics of his clinical interest on Neuropsychiatry and Personality disorders, and published in peer reviewed journals of The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Alicia Curtis - CAMHS Service Lead

Alicia is a qualified learning disability nurse with an additional degree in mental health nursing. Alicia started her career nursing within medium and low secure forensic services before progressing to management within locked rehabilitation and community services.

Alicia has many years’ experience leading teams working in both adult and adolescent services across England. Alicia is currently studying a Master’s Degree in Autism Spectrum at Sheffield Hallam University.

Stacey Burgess - Pegasus Ward Manager

Stacey started her Mental Health Nursing studies at the University of Huddersfield in 2010. Since qualifying Stacey has worked across South Yorkshire including a rehabilitation service for women with personality disorder, before moving on to male forensics working in both low and mediums secure services. Whilst working there, Stacey completed her Non-Medical Nurse Prescribing where she worked as an Independent Prescriber.

Stacey joined Cygnet Sheffield in January 2020 as a Clinical Team Leader at Pegasus Ward and progressed to Ward Manager in July 2022.

Stacey had a keen interest in service user and family involvement. Stacey’s positive influence has shown she is leading her team to achieve their possible best to support the recovery of the young people in our care. Outside of work, Stacey likes theatre trips, sausage dogs and her favourite colour is orange.

Kayli Burgin - Spencer Ward Manager

Kayli joined Cygnet in January 2021 as ward manager on Spencer Ward, which is the low secure female ward at Sheffield. Kayli qualified as a mental health nurse in 2010 from Sheffield Hallam university. Kayli worked as a healthcare assistant in medium and low secure services whilst completing her nursing qualification. Since qualifying Kayli worked within a medium secure service for males with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum and Personality Disorder for 10 years. Kayli is passionate about patient centred care, co-production and least restrictive practice, and has a keen interest in quality and compliance.

Keith Gwyther - Unicorn Ward Manager

Keith has been in care/nursing since 1991 and a qualified Nurse since 2012. He has worked in a variety of settings from country hospitals to secure services and community settings. During this time, Keith has worked with a range of patients including adults and young people with both mental health and personality support needs.

Keith has been the ward a manger on Unicorn since January 2021 having previously worked on the ward as a clinical team leader. He enjoys supporting service users during their time of most need and aims to give individuals and staff members a positive role model who they can rely on and be supported by.

Outside of work Keith enjoys doing “challenges” such as cross country races, boxing for charity along with weight training, this all help to keep him fit and active.

Dr Seb Thompson - Head of Psychology

Seb is an experienced consultant clinical psychologist and head of psychology at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield. Seb completed his doctoral training in clinical psychology from University College London (UCL) and has worked in a variety of community and inpatient settings since qualification, including both CAMHS and forensic services. Seb joined Cygnet Health Care in 2019 and is the psychology lead across their CAMHS services nationally. He is also working towards accreditation as a multi professional approved clinician (MPAC).

Seb is on multiple committees within the Quality Network for Inpatient CAMHS (QNIC) and is passionate about delivering high quality, psychologically informed care. He is a strong advocate of co-production and enjoys leading on service development projects throughout the hospital.

Jo Dawes - Social Work Lead

Jo has been a social worker at Cygnet Hospital Sheffield since 2014 and became Lead Social Worker and Safeguarding Lead for the hospital in May 2016.

Jo gained her BA (Hons) Social Work Studies Degree from Sheffield Hallam University in June 2011. She later worked with an assertive outreach team in the community and has also worked in drug and alcohol services. Jo is an assistant scout leader in her spare time and enjoys working with young people to help them develop a sense of belonging and wellbeing.

Ciro completes 55km charity run from Sheffield to Leeds

Well done to Ciro Theaker who has completed a gruelling 55km run between Sheffield and Leeds to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital after it cared for his daughter who was born 15 weeks premature.
