Information for Visitors

Blackheath (64)

Whilst a patient is in hospital it is important that the contact with the everyday occurrences and family relationships of home are continued.

At Cygnet Hospital Blackheath, the following visiting hours apply:

Meridian Unit – Low Secure Rehabilitation
Visiting hours are from 4.00pm – 7.00pm Mondays to Fridays and 1.00pm to 7.00pm at weekends.  Visits will be supervised by a member of staff. Children may visit on an individually assessed basis, subject to risk assessment.

Tyler Ward – Male Psychiatric Intensive Care
Visiting hours are 2.00pm – 7.00pm at weekends and 4.00pm – 7.00pm on weekdays.

At weekends, visiting hours are open but subject to risk assessment and 24 hours notice to ward staff.

On arrival to Cygnet Hospital Blackheath you will need to walk to the entrance of Blackheath Brain Injury Unit. Please buzz for which ever ward you have an appointment with or you can buzz the reception. On entering the front door turn to the left past the Huntercombe reception and go to the doors leading to the lift and buzz reception who will let you into the lift foyer. Take the lift to the first floor reception and sign in.

What to expect on arrival

From 9.00am – 5.00pm on Monday to Friday there will be someone at reception on the first floor to greet you. They will ask you to sign in and if you have any contraband items. You may be asked to allow us to search your bag to ensure none of the items are there. This is a safety and security measure for you and the people on the unit.

A nurse will collect you from reception and take you to your meeting or visit.

Out of hours and at weekends you will need to take the lift to the correct floor: Tyler ward is on the 2nd floor, Meridian ward is on the first floor. A nurse will collect you from the lift foyer on that floor and take you to your visit.

Places to Stay

There are lots of hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation in and around Greenwich and Blackheath.

Blackheath Village is brimming with restaurants and bars to keep you entertained. Greenwich is on the river Thames and offers you easy access to central London, via river boat, DLR or train. Greenwich Park offers amazing views of the city as well as being home to the Greenwich Observatory and the Maritime Museum.

What not to bring

To ensure the safety of our service users, visitors and staff at all times we operate a contraband list of items which are not allowed on the unit. Please do not bring any of the items on the list below to the unit. You will be asked when signing in if you have any of these items and may be asked to search your bags before entry to the unit. If you do accidentally bring any items on the list don’t worry, you can hand them in at reception or to the nursing staff and they will be returned to you when you leave.
