Dr Robert F Kehoe – Medical Director, BSc MBChB FRCPsych MPhil
Adult General Psychiatry
Dr Kehoe trained in medicine at the University of Leeds and in psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh where he completed an MPhil thesis on lithium monitoring. He was appointed as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Airedale General Hospital, West Yorkshire in 1993 and had responsibilities in clinical audit, clinical governance and became the Trust Associate Medical Director.
Dr Kehoe has worked at Cygnet Health Care since 2002 at Wyke, Brighouse and Bierley. He is the Medical Director for the West Yorkshire Cygnet Hospitals and is Responsible Officer for Cygnet Health Care and Cygnet Hospitals, overseeing the re-validation and regulation of doctors within Cygnet Health Care across the country. He also has a GMC appointment as a Suitable Person.
He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and chapters on lithium, health service development, clinical governance and clinical audit. He has worked on a variety of Royal College of Psychiatrists committees.
Dr Kehoe has worked in low secure psychiatric settings and mental health rehabilitation for the last 15 years. He also has a medico-legal practice for civil and criminal matters and has acted as an expert witness in a number of high profile cases.
Dr Asif Y Ramzan, MB ChB MRCPsych
Dr Ramzan attended Sheffield University Medical School in 1993-1998. He completed Senior House Officer training in psychiatry within the North Trent Scheme before being appointed to the Forensic Psychiatry Higher Training Scheme in West Yorkshire. He obtained a CCST in Forensic Psychiatry in 2002. He has worked as a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry since February 2003.
Dr Ramzan has a particular interest in the care of mentally disordered female offenders and also the rehabilitation of forensic patients and those with similar needs. He has an interest in medical education and has held various roles within the Northern and Yorkshire Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He undertakes a variety of medico-legal work providing expert opinions with respect to criminal, family and civil court matters.
Dr Darryl J J Britto, MBBS, MRCPsych, Cert HSM
Adult General Psychiatry
Dr Britto qualified as doctor of medicine in 1983 with the Bal-Chintoba Prize in Forensic Medicine. He has been accorded the status as ‘Specialist in Psychiatry’ by the GMC, under the European Specialist Qualifications Order 1995. In addition to work at Cygnet Hospital Bierley, Dr Britto practises at the BMI Huddersfield Hospital specialising in the treatment of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, adult survivors of childhood abuse and addictions.
Dr Britto is also a Force Consultant Psychiatrist to Merseyside Constabulary, Liverpool, and a Consultant Psychiatry Claims Advisor to Vitality Health UK. He has previously been a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Leeds and Clinical Tutor in Psychiatry for the Halifax Hospitals appointed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London. He undertakes assessment for civil compensation claims and employment tribunals. He has worked for Cygnet Hospital Bierley since 2006, specialising in the treatment of service users admitted to the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and also undertakes psychological interventions for post-trauma related psychiatric morbidity.
Dr Sumanta Gupta , MBBS (Calcutta, India), MRCPsych, MSc (Psychiatry)
Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
Dr Gupta has trained in medicine at the University of Calcutta, India and did his Specialist Registrar Training at Cambridge (Eastern Deanery). He then completed his Master’s degree in Psychiatry at Keele University in 2008.
He has worked as a Consultant in the NHS for 8 years in acute and emergency psychiatry where he held various responsible positions including Chair of Consultants Committee and Medical Education Committee as the College Tutor, in a mental health foundation trust at Manchester where he worked closely with the Northwest deanery in recruitment and training of psychiatry core and higher trainees. He joined Cygnet Health Care in 2016 as the medical lead for a female personality disorder unit at Bierley and a male PICU (shared responsibility) at Wyke.
Dr Gupta has published his research project with the National Confidential Inquiry into suicide and homicide, led by Prof. Nav Kapur, at Manchester University. He has also published papers on Early Intervention in Psychosis in a research project led by Prof. David Fowler at University of East Anglia. His special interests includes EUPD, Acute Psychiatry and Bipolar Disorder and he has been in the Royal College of Psychiatrists CASC Examination Panel since 2012 and examines for the Royal College twice a year.
