Meet the Team

Kudzanai Chikodzi - Service Manager

Kudzanai has been employed by Cygnet Health Care since 2019. He is a Registered Mental health nurse by profession with a vast experience in working in medium secure units, rehabilitation and low secure units for people with people with Autism and Learning disability.

He has experience of working in mental health and learning disability forensic service and prior to his current role was the Clinical Service Manager for Cygnet Hospital Colchester's male acute ward and specialist male ASD/complex learning disability unit.

Dr Mark Luffingham - Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Mark Luffingham joined Alders in February 2016. He graduated from Southampton University in 1999 before completing specialist training and qualifications in Bristol and Adelaide. Mark has gained wide experience across a number of settings in the U.K. and Australia. He is on the Specialist Register for General Psychiatry and has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in inpatient and community settings both in the NHS and private sector. His areas of special interest include rehabilitation psychiatry, CBT, personality disorders, patient engagement and supervision. Outside of work he lives with his family and numerous pets and enjoys walking, tennis and camping.

Dr Gemma Finlay-Carruthers - Chartered Forensic Psychologist

Dr Gemma Finlay-Carruthers is a Chartered Forensic Psychologist who joined Cygnet Alders as Lead Psychologist in December 2021. Prior to joining Cygnet, she worked in a range of prison, NHS hospitals and community forensic settings for 10 years. Gemma has a keen interest in developing a rich understanding of the role of trauma and adversity in the lives of those who may be diagnosed with a personality disorder. Gemma is committed to promoting and modelling a compassionate and co-operative approach to all aspects of psychology service provision.

Alexandra Mocrei - Assistant Psychologist

Alexandra Mocrei is an Assistant Psychologist at Cygnet Alders Clinic who joined the team in December 2021. Having successfully achieved a Distinction in her MSc Psychology, Alexandra successfully graduated from Nottingham Trent University at the end of 2021. Alexandra presented her Master’s Thesis, exploring discontinuation of therapy in IAPT services, at the EABCT 2021 Annual Congress in Belfast.

Alexandra previously worked as a Therapy Coordinator at Cygnet Acer, a 14-bed acute mental health unit, providing a range of therapeutic activities to aid in the therapeutic recovery of service users.

Chelsie Ross - Assistant Psychologist

Chelsie graduated from the University of Plymouth with a BSc Psychology degree in 2019. She continued her studies with the University of Plymouth and graduated with an MSc Clinical Psychology in 2020. Chelsie joined the team at Alders Clinic in July 2020 and as a Support Worker. In September 2021, she swapped the Senior Support Worker role to join the team as an Assistant Psychologist. Chelsie has worked in both in inpatient and community settings supporting individuals with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. Chelsie hopes to go on and complete a doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Emily Longstaff - Specialist Occupational Therapist

Emily Longstaff joined Alders clinic in January 2020. In 2013, Emily completed a Psychology and counselling degree, Emily then discovered occupational therapy shortly after this and studied occupational therapy at Coventry University.

Emily’s first occupational therapy job was in the physical health sector; this involved visiting individuals in their homes and making adaptations to enable individuals to live as independently as possible for as long as possible. Whilst this was a rewarding job, Emily was eager to transition back into the mental health sector. Throughout Emily’s career, she has worked with people with complex mental health issues in numerous settings, as well as working with homeless individuals and those with learning disabilities. Emily has continued to develop knowledge and skills whilst at Cygnet health care. External to Alders, Emily regularly engages in bouldering and hiking.

Gemma Cresswell - Occupational Therapist

Gemma has been working within the care sector for over ten years and began working in mental health seven years ago which ignited her interest in Occupational therapy. She graduated from the University of Worcester in 2021 and started her first job as a qualified Occupational Therapist in November 2021.

Gemma’s experience includes paediatrics, mental health, student lecturing and physical health inpatients. She achieved a recognition of excellence award during her mental health placement. Her areas of interests include but are not limited to: Occupational Science, Mental health, Trauma, Sensory Integration, Green Care and Homelessness.

Alex Burnett - Occupational Therapy Assistant

Alex joined the Alders team in November 2021 as Occupational Therapy Assistant after studying Physical Activity and Health Promotion at Oxford Brookes University. Her passion lies in mental health and she is keen to explore this further whilst at Cygnet. She hopes to pursue a career in becoming a qualified Occupational Therapist but would love to explore a variety sectors along the way to broaden her knowledge. She has previous experience in working with individuals with learning difficulties in a community setting; both paediatrics and adults

Currently, Alex is interested to explore women’s mental health specifically and develop her knowledge in this area. Outside of work, Alex has a passion for cooking and discovering new foods from various cultures.
