Staff well-being project at Cygnet Oaks

The hardworking staff teams at Cygnet Oaks were recently gifted with some self-help boxes. These were partly inspired by the ‘calm down’ boxes put in place for the service users as part of the Safewards intervention.

The Psychology team know that to be able to help other people we need to be feeling okay in ourselves first. They say that you can’t pour from an empty cup. And to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. Caring professionals are often quick to forget this, so the boxes felt like a nice way of reminding everyone to look after themselves and each other.

Staff have been encouraged to use the items in the boxes when they are having their breaks, or during the times when an extra bit of time out is needed. They contain lots of things including sweet treats, relaxing teas, advice on managing stress (with the ‘stress less’ cards), a list of different coping technique ideas, mindfulness activities, and some positive thought cards. Many thanks were sent in the direction of Tim, the Hospital Manager, for supporting the budget for this project.
