National Fitness Day at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke

To mark National Fitness Day on 22nd September, the team at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke created a new activity called ‘Exercise Bingo’. Active Life Lead, Sally Leddy, supported by members of the OT team, took Exercise Bingo to each of the five wards.

Sally devised the game herself after realising that bingo was very popular. In her version each number equated to an exercise, so when a number was called, participants checked their card and then took part in the exercise associated with that number. Exercises included, among others, star jumps, leg raises, side steps, front and back crawl, lateral raises, high knees, leg swings and calf raises.

There were prizes for the first people to complete a full line on their card and for a full house. There was good engagement on each ward and service users enjoyed the activity so much that they have requested further sessions.
