Happy 20th anniversary to Robert Lambert

Robert Lambert started working at Cygnet Hospital Bury in the Deaf services on 22nd April 2002 as a Mental Health Support Worker and then joined the OT team as an Activities Coordinator 4 years later. Recently Robert celebrated 20 years of service at the hospital.

As a Deaf member of staff Robert has always shown a strong-minded approach to advocating for the unique needs of our Deaf service users in Bury, throughout his 20 years of service. While understanding their needs as users of mental health services, Robert has also helped many hearing staff over the years to better understand the experience of being born Deaf and the challenges and celebrations that are part of life within the Deaf Community.

Robert has always been passionate in facilitating and leading activities for our Deaf wards. Over the years he has run many celebration activities for international sports events such as F1 and the World Cup, leading our sweep stake competitions across staff and service users for the winning teams, and creating visual displays to celebrate these types of events.

Robert has facilitated our service users to jointly produce endless arts and craft items for sale and to decorate the wards for MacMillan Coffee Mornings, and at Halloween and Christmas.

He is an expert at organising our bingo and tombola events and all of our patient Christmas Parties and Summer Fairs. If you have never experienced Deaf friendly party games you have missed a treat, especially the sensory experience of sitting on a balloon until it pops to see what prize you have won!

Every year of those 20 years, he has made sure that the service users have had Christmas presents bought for them that are individual to their preferences, and every New Year’s Eve he has always made sure there has been enough fizzy grape juice and cake to celebrate raising a glass to see in the New Year.

Over the past 20 years, Robert has built fantastic therapeutic working relationships with many of the service users and is always well respected by them, as well as by his colleagues. Robert remains a valued member of the OT and Activities Team and the Deaf Service team. His experience is greatly appreciated by everyone. We would like to thank Robert for 20 years of being a dedicated Activity Coordinator and a wonderful colleague.
