Cygnet Health Care's Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) provide a safe and secure environment for short term care and treatment for mental illness. Our expert teams will undertake a full assessment over the telephone and via faxed documentation where available, enabling you to receive a decision within 60 minutes of receipt of this information. We can also arrange transportation if required.

Following admission , we work with the service user and referring team to develop the best plan of care and treatment to enable transition to a more suitable setting.
We can offer a higher level of support and supervision than on acute inpatient wards - by creating intensive treatment packages in a safe, therapeutic, low stimulus setting.

Our aim is a short, rapid intervention to help people regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting and return home. Accommodation is provided in en-suite rooms on single sex wards.
For service users who exhibit longer term challenging behaviour we have developed our Challenging Behaviour locked service at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage, where longer term treatment is undertaken to address substance misuse and personality disorders to enable service users who may have a long history of PICU admissions to be treated.
