Secure Mental Health Services
Cygnet Health Care offers a variety of secure services for service users who demonstrate disturbed and challenging behaviour that requires their detention under the Mental Health Act for either their safety or the public's.
We offer designated medium secure, low secure, intensive care and step forward facilities at 14 hospital sites around the country, for male and female adults.
Medium Secure
Offering a secure setting for treating and rehabilitating people exhibiting dangerous and challenging behaviour due to severe and enduring mental health problems. Our designated services and facilities comply with national standards guidance for medium secure services. Low Secure
Working to national guidelines, we create a personalised package of care to move individuals further along their recovery-based care pathway, preparing them to reclaim their independence. We care for individuals with many different mental health problems, as well as a history of repeated hospital admission. Some may exhibit dangerous and chronic challenging or offending behaviour, while others may have a forensic history or have received more than one diagnosis.

Locked Service for Older People
We provide a specialist locked mental health service for older male service users at Cygnet Hospital Bierley in West Yorkshire. The service specifically caters for male service users who have a serious mental disorder and who could have a secondary diagnosis of personality disorder, mild learning disability, present with disturbed behaviour, or are a risk of physical danger to others or themselves. Locked Challenging Behaviour
A Solution to PICU and Secure NHS Bed Blocking, our Locked Challenging Behaviour wards, based at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage, are pre-discharge wards set between low secure and locked rehabilitation. Read more>>
Locked Rehabilitation
Bridging the gap between hospital and community living, though still in a registered hospital, we help individuals enhance their daily living skills and become more independent, so they can return home. Read more>>
Locked Learning Disabilities
This specialist health service for women with learning disabilities sits within a female hospital. It is designed for service users for whom mainstream provision cannot meet their needs. It is an inpatient provision to female service users, aged 18 and over with a learning disability who's challenging behavior and mental health needs require that they are detained under the Mental Health Act in a locked ward. Psychiatric Intensive Care
Our Psychiatric Intensive Care Units provide a locked, low secure environment for short term care and treatment, offering a higher level of support and supervision than on the larger acute inpatient wards. Criminal Justice
