Prison Transfer Service
Cygnet Wing Blackheath and Cygnet Hospital Stevenage offer a Prison Transfer Service to patients referred to us from prison. We offer specialised care for these patients whose mental health needs cannot be met in the prison environment.
Interventions will focus on stabilisation of mental illness in its acute phase and detailed assessment of the needs of prisoners with recommendations for future management and treatment.
Cygnet Wing Blackheath offers this service for low secure rehabilitation for men requiring an intensive care (PICU) environment, whilst Cygnet Hospital Stevenage offers this service for men and women who require a medium or low secure rehabilitation environment.
As Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is a medium secure hospital, they are able to collect patients from prison (when required). This assists the relevant NHS Trust or PCT in facilitating the transfer of the patient into a more appropriate environment as quickly as possible.
