Low Secure Services - Complex Needs & Challenging Behaviour
Cygnet provides low secure environments for male and female clients in a variety of convenient locations around the country.
These clients may have a history of hospital admission, exhibit dangerous behaviour or have a history of challenging behaviour and/or offending behaviours. We use a specialised rehabilitation treatment programme for those suffering from severe and enduring mental health problems.
Admission Criteria
Patients typically:
- Are detained under a section of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Present with challenging or offending behaviours
- Also require detoxification or counselling for substance misuse as well as treatment for psychiatric illness
Treatment Programme
While utilising a holistic approach to client care, we aim to monitor, manage and reduce risk, balancing therapy and security while preparing clients to lead full and independent lives in the community.
We seek to understand how each client perceives their own limitations as this enables us to empower and support the client to reclaim the independence and identity they may have lost through years of hospitalisation.
Once a client has been accepted, a comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment will be completed. This will include a detailed personal care and management structure programme based on individual and group therapy. There is an emphasis on increasing independent living and focusing on community reintegration.
The therapy programme aims to:
- provide rehabilitation tailored to individual needs
- identify recovery goals in collaboration with the client
- help patients regain independence by maximising skills potential
- work with local services to aid reintegration into the community
- balance security and therapy
Referrals
A patient assessment visit can be arranged quickly by either phoning or faxing a completed referral form.
Alternatively, referrals can be processed through our convenient central bed sourcing service, Cygnet Central. Whichever method is used referrers will be notified of decisions within 5 working days.
