Eating Disorders

Treatment is provided by a core specialist eating disorders team that includes:

  • Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Trained nurses
  • Psychological therapists
  • Dietitians
  • Physical therapists
  • Family therapist

Most of our hospitals can provide naso-gastric and peg feeding where necessary and will accept patients at very low or life threatening BMIs as well as patients with a history of treatment resistance and/or dual diagnosis. We can also offer a fixed re-feeding and therapy programme for less acutely ill patients or those who have relapsed.

Treatment packages may involve re-feeding to a healthy weight, education as to normal healthy eating patterns and psychological therapies on an individual and group basis to address underlying issues as to distorted body image and/or low self esteem. During treatment patients will be introduced to the therapy programme and an assessment made of their ability to participate in different groups. We can then offer a pathway of care that accurately reflects the patient's individual needs.

Referrors can expect regular reports on their patients throughout the period of admission together with a detailed discharge summary. Pre-discharge meetings are arranged to liaise with local community professionals to help plan aftercare.

Patient assessments can be done by the clinical team in conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist at your locality and we are happy to discuss this service informally at any time.
