How do I refer?
You need to:
- Telephone Cygnet Lodge Westlands or Cygnet Hospital Ealing to discuss broadly your referral (optional).
- Complete a referral form and fax it to Cygnet Lodge Westlands.
- By e-mail Cygnet Lodge Westlands@cygnethealth.co.uk
We will:
- Discuss the referral among the team.
- Assess the patient within 48 hours of receiving the referral.
- Feed back this assessment to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Make a decision and inform you within 7 days of the assessment.
- Arrange for the patient’s admission as soon as convenient.
Is there a cost for the assessment?
There is no cost for the assessment.
What is the assessment process?
Two staff from Cygnet Lodge Westlands and Cygnet Hospital Ealing will go and meet with the patient and talk with the nursing and medical staff and write a thorough report for Cygnet Lodge Westlands MDT. A copy will be available to the referrer.
What happens next and what is the admission procedure?
- Invite the patient to visit Cygnet Lodge Westlands and Cygnet Hospital Ealing and meet with the MDT.
- Possible overnight stay.
- Offer 4-6 weeks trial period to determine suitability.

What is the average length of stay?
The length of stay is dependent on the patient's progress and is reviewed regularly in ward rounds and Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings to which external clinicians and carers/relatives are invited as appropriate.
What happens if a patient relapses or problems occur?
Cygnet Hospital Ealing has two separate wards with comprehensive therapy programmes, in addition to a step-down annexe within the same. We are also able to offer more secure facilities within another Cygnet hospital in East London. If a patient should relapse, they would either be transferred back to their local team or to one of our other locations with the aim of transferring back to Cygnet Lodge Westlands as soon as appropriate.
Where are patients discharged to?
Patients are discharged from Cygnet Lodge Westlands to rehabilitation centres, home or if necessary back to acute wards. The average length of stay at Cygnet Lodge Westlands is 59 days.
