Pattison Ward - Female medium secure

Service & Objectives

PattisonThis 15-bed female medium secure ward admits patients aged eighteen and above who require the physical, relational and procedural security of a medium secure environment.

Service Description:

  • integrated care pathway to recovery
  • de-institutionalisation
  • homely environment
  • rehabilitation and care
  • re-integration into the community (where appropriate)

Objectives:

  • to provide an environment in which patients' individual needs are met by a multi-disciplinary team
  • to foster independence and motivate those we work with by understanding their symptoms and behaviour, so as to promote positive change.

Treatment Programme

The ward provides a setting in which those individuals who challenge existing services can be contained within a secure environment, whilst maintaining a therapeutic setting in which treatment programmes can be developed and delivered.

The service is multi-disciplinary, with medical, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, dance and drama therapy all making up part of the day-to-day programme offered.

The service utilises a bio-psychosocial model of care delivery, with each individual taking an active part in the development of their programme. The care programme provided is a dynamic process which is comprehensive and co-ordinated to meet the changing needs of the patient group.

There is an overarching group programme which is aimed at maintaining patient to patient interaction and patient to staff interactions. Tailored plans of care sit within this timetable, allowing for specific needs to be met.

The team utilises Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, psychopharmacology and art based psychotherapy to assist in the ongoing rehabilitation of the patients.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is utilised to address the specific needs of Borderline Personality Disorder patients, although there are elements of this model that can be used by all patients.

Activities available for patients include:

  • general affairs
  • arts and crafts
  • computer groups
  • good grooming, personal care and budgeting
  • relaxation techniques
  • healthy eating, nutrition and menu planning
