Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke

Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke is a low secure hospital set in 16 acres of its own grounds, which provides 57 inpatient beds over four separate wards.

Services

Four wards, all to low secure specification, cater for patients on a care pathway from admission through rehabilitation to discharge.

We provide the following services:

• Male Psychiatric Intensive Care
• Male Low Secure Challenging Behaviour
• Male Low Secure Rehabilitation
• Female Low Secure Rehabilitation

Facilities

The hospital is within easy reach of road and rail facilities and the community setting means it is close to local leisure and recreational facilities. It is set in nearly 16 acres of landscaped grounds overlooking the Bristol Channel, providing a tranquil and therapeutic setting for the treatment process.

Facilities include:

• Single rooms with en-suite bathrooms
• Each ward has its own designated garden and/or terrace
• Fully equipped gym and activities suite
• 16 acres of grounds

The Team

The Multi-Disciplinary team comprises:

• Consultant Psychiatrists
• Staff Grade Psychiatrists
• Registered Mental Health Nurses
• Clinical Support Workers
• Clinical Psychologists
• Social Workers
• Occupational Therapists
• Sessional Therapists - potter, art psychotherapist, drug and alcohol counsellor
• Gym Instructor

Making a Referral

Referrals can be made by phone and fax 24 hours a day. On receipt of a referral, we aim to inform teams of our decision promptly and will arrange off-site visits for the purpose of assessment where necessary.

Admission, if appropriate, is arranged at the earliest stage.

Discharge

Each patient has an individual care plan based on an assessment of his mental, physical and social needs. We hold regular care planning meetings and case reviews in line with the Care Programme Approach (CPA)/Section 117 directives. During these meetings, the patient’s progress is discussed. Other topics covered include possible future placements and eventual discharge.
