Our Addictions therapy team can provide a rapid specialist treatment programme for alcohol detoxification. Often this is part of an overall treatment required in conjunction with another mental health problem.
Service & Objectives
Cygnet Hospital Harrogate has several Consultant Psychiatrists offering specialist expertise in many areas of addictions.
We offer a unique two staged residential treatment programme called “START” (Strategies and Treatment for Alcohol Rehabilitation and Therapy).
As a service registered and regulated by the Healthcare Commission our service objectives are to work with our NHS partners to ensure continuity of care in planned patient journeys and care pathways.
Who is appropriate/Admission Criteria?
Admission for addiction services is dependent on physical and psychological assessment.

Treatment Programme
Our specialised programme START (Strategies & Treatment for Alcohol Rehabilitation and Therapy) offers a two part strategy. There is a 7 day physical alcohol detoxification in a pleasant, safe environment, with a consultant psychiatrist prescribing suitable medication to minimise alcohol withdrawal symptoms. A 10 day therapeutic programme follows. Relaxation techniques, stress management and assertiveness training are among the skills you will acquire for a new alcohol free lifestyle. The two stages are available separately or as a complete package.
