Eating disorders services
Service & Objectives
We offer:
- Individually tailored care programmes on an inpatient, day patient and outpatient basis. Long & short term packages are available.
- Specialist assessment. Outreach assessments are also available for those unable to travel.
- Discharge planning and aftercare.
Our aim is:
- to provide a secure, healing environment in a community setting
- to readdress life balance and enhance self-esteem through the provision of innovative packages of care centred around life skills therapy we aim
- to work towards disentangling the individual from their eating disorder through understanding its meaning and why it is so difficult to disassociate from the disorder
- to break the cycle of illness and treatment.
Who is appropriate?
Individuals must be:
- Aged between 16 and 65
- Diagnosed with an eating disorder or similar traits
- Those who self harm but may not have been formally diagnosed
- Informal or detained under the relevant Mental Health legislation
- Suitable for an open acute ward setting placement
- Patients with a dual diagnosis may be considered.
We cannot accept individuals with:
- Severe mental impairment
- Severe Learning Disabilities
- Disorders of an organic nature without treatable psychiatric conditions
- Medical conditions that require immediate treatment in medical / surgical units
- A specific diagnosis of substance misuse requiring acute detox, although Dual Diagnosis patients will be considered
Treatment Programme
We draw on psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioural, occupational, and motivational enhancement models of care in line with NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) Guidance and evidence based practice.
Our treatment programme includes:
- Secure healing environment
- Person centred care
- Full medical monitoring
- Full therapeutic programme and boundaries
- Family therapy and carers assessments and support
- Individual therapies including; cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic, interpersonal, occupational, art, body image, and complementary therapies.
- Normalised approach to food, to include planning, shopping, preparation and eating of meals
- Planned relaxation and socialisation
- Further education/appropriate voluntary/paid work
