How do I refer?
You need to:
- Telephone the Bed Manager on 020 7511 2299, ext. 556 to discuss broadly your referral (optional).
- Complete a referral form and email/fax it to Beckton.
We will:
- Discuss the referral among the team.
- Assess the patient within 7 days of receiving the referral. In the case of PICU referrals, we will assess within one hour.
- Feed back this assessment to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Make a decision and inform you within 7 days of the assessment.
- Arrange for the patient’s admission as soon as convenient.
What happens next?
Once a referral is taken, a date is arranged to carry out an assessment.
Is there a cost for the assessment?
There is no cost for the assessment.
What is the assessment process?
The assessment process is undertaken by members of the multi-disciplinary team, consisting of medical, nursing, and occupational therapy team members. Following the assessment a detailed and comprehensive report and recommendations is sent back to the referrer.
What happens next?
The NHS Funding Panel decide on the patient’s placement.
Do you maintain contact with referrers during an admission?
Contact is maintained with referrers by either a weekly clinical updates or monthly progress reports. We also send out invitations to attend a Care Programme Approach (CPA), with regards to discharge planning.
What is the average length of stay?
The average length of stay is dependant on the individual needs. Please consult with the Services Liaison Manager for exact figures.
What happens if a patient relapses or problems occur?
First of all we liaise with the patient’s NHS Trust to discuss options. We would look at offering a bed on one of our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), i.e. Cygnet Hospital Beckton has a Female only PICU on site; alternatively we could provide a PICU bed for Male patients on our sister hospital site, Cygnet Wing Blackheath.
Where do service users go after they have been at Cygnet Hospital Beckton?
Service users will return to the local NHS Trust that referred them.
Would it be possible to arrange a visit to the unit?
Visits to the Unit can be facilitated by appointment. To make an appointment please call Cygnet Hospital Beckton switchboard on 020 7511 2299 and ask for the General Manager or the Services Liaison Manager.
