Cob & Bewick
Female Low Secure Rehabilitation & Low Secure Complex Needs and/or Challenging Behaviour - Bewick ward
Male Low Secure Rehabilitation & Low Secure Complex Needs and/or Challenging Behaviour - Cob ward
Service & Objectives
Bewick and Cob wards offer treatment and rehabilitation for women and men suffering from severe and enduring mental health problems. We aim to achieve stability and rehabilitation using the Tidal Model of Care.
The Tidal Model is an interdisciplinary model of care, which emphasises the core need for empowerment. It recognises that many different individuals, groups and disciplines may be required - at different times - to arrange and deliver this kind of care, from traditional health and social care workers to family members, friends and others who have had experience of the recovery journey.
Our objectives are to:
- Provide rehabilitation tailored to individual needs
- Identify recovery goals in collaboration with the clients and significant others
- Help clients regain independence by maximising skills potential
- Work with referrers and local services to aid reintegration into the community
- Balance security and therapy
Who is appropriate?
Our inclusion criteria for individuals are:
- Long term mentally ill men and women, including those experiencing acute episodes of psychosis
- Men and women requiring prolonged detention under Mental Health legislation due to non-compliance with medication or with a history of ‘revolving door' admissions to Psychiatric Intensive Care Units
- Those with a history of dangerous and chronic challenging behaviour, including forensic history
- Men and women with dual diagnosis
- Men and women from Medium Secure Units requiring rehabilitation in a low secure environment following detailed risk assessment
- Appropriate referrals from within the criminal justice system
Treatment Programme
Our therapy programme incorporates individual and group work using the Tidal Model of care to promote a greater awareness and understanding of clients' problems and to encourage change.
This enables the team to assist clients in building on existing strengths and support networks to allow recovery and reclamation of identity.
