Meeting the needs of the individual and their workplace
Work related stress and mental health problems represent some of the biggest challenges to the Occupational Health Professional.
Unfortunately, most NHS Mental Health Services have been required to focus their limited resources on the needs of patients with "serious enduring mental health problems", predominantly psychoses, leaving the remainder of patients' care to already overloaded primary care, GP and Counselling Services.
At Cygnet Hospital Godden Green we have developed a range of services to fill this gap and to get staff back to working happily and effectively with the minimum of delay.
A job in itself can be a powerful aid to rehabilitation and recovery (DOH 2004). The longer someone is away from work the harder it is to return, this in turn keeps the many costs rising.
Often individuals will wait months for an initial assessment with an NHS provider, and then join a long waiting list for therapy. They remain in limbo; not able to work, but unable to access the care they need; whilst the situation continues to deteriorate. Prompt treatment facilitates a rapid return to work.
We provide a service that meets the needs of both the individual and their workplace.
Within the Hospital, several Consultant Psychiatrists have developed long standing relationships with a number of Occupational Health providers in both the public and private sectors. Using this experience as a foundation, some have undertaken further specialist training in Occupational Medicine, so as to better understand the needs of individuals and employers.
We ensure timely assessment and access to a range of evidence-based psychological therapies. We also work closely with the organisation and their employee to decrease the interval time between treatment and return to work. Following assessment, advice on capacity to work, individualised treatment packages and workplace rehabilitation are available for discussion with the Occupational Health Professional involved.
Qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapists can also advise, train or facilitate workshops within organisations. These could include aspects like stress management, mental health promotion or raising awareness and understanding of mental health issues. We help organisations identify the issues which may arise, as a preventative measure. When problems do occur, we work with organisations to ensure a prompt resolution.
Cygnet Hospital Godden Green would be happy to discuss your business needs and to work with you to ensure a contented, well motivated and thus productive workforce.
