Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychoanalytic counselling has unconscious processes at the heart of therapy.  The psychodynamic therapist helps the patient to gain awareness of how unconscious drives influence intentions, desires and beliefs.  Often there are unconscious deceptions about personal motivations involved here, which result in conflict between expressed goals and actions.

The therapist helps the patient to gain awareness of the unconscious motivations behind their behaviour.  Gaining awareness helps the patient to make better decisions, choices and change repetitive behaviour that are rooted in the past, especially in early childhood experiences.
