Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Evidence to date suggests that Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) is the most efficient and rapid psychotherapeutic procedure available for the treatment of traumatic memories and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Treatment consists of the therapist asking the client to visualise their trauma or negative belief and to be aware of how it makes them feel while encouraging rapid eye movement.

The therapist will then monitor changes that occur from the concurrent visual focusing and physical eye movement. Gradually the changes become more positive as the client reprocesses painful memories and beliefs and replaces them with healthy beliefs.
