Whilst a service user is in hospital it is important that the contact with the everyday occurrences and family relationships of home are continued.
As Wyke is a Low Secure Unit there are certain restrictions on visiting arrangements. All visits must be cleared by the Nurse-in-Charge of the relevant ward. When visitors arrive they will be allocated a security badge at reception and escorted to the ward or off-ward visitor’s room by a member of ward staff. This is to ensure that we have an accurate record of who is in the building at all times to ensure everyone’s safety.
24 hours notice is usually required to ensure that visiting facilities are available. Visiting is allocated to one specific area of the ward and visitors are not allowed to enter a service user’s room without permission from the Nurse-in-Charge.
Before a child visit takes place the ward attached Therapeutic Social Worker is required to liaise with the family (by telephone, visit or letter) and if necessary with the Care Co-coordinator and the referring team.
A short assessment (verbal or written) ought to be provided for the members of the MDT in order to reach a final decision regarding the visit.
To ensure the safety of our service users, visitors and staff at all times we operate a contraband list of items which are not allowed on the unit. Please do not bring any of the items on the list below to the unit. You will be asked when signing in if you have any of these items and may be asked to search your bags before entry to the unit.
