At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we treat individuals who require Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU) providing a locked environment for short term care and treatment for mental illness. We also provide a low secure environment for male and female service users who may have a history of hospital admissions, exhibit dangerous behaviour or have a history of challenging behaviour and/or offending behaviours.
Our integrated care pathway allows transition to a lower level of security enabling service users to move from Secure Commissioned services, to our PCT funded Intensive Community Rehabilitation service, Cygnet Lodge Brighouse. The next step along our care pathway from Cygnet Lodge Brighouse is to our Supported Living service - Cygnet Supported Living.
The movement of service users along our care pathway is designed to shorten lengths of stay and reduce cost, thereby enhancing value for commissioners.
We provide client-centred care of the highest quality and start planning for discharge from the point of admission. We hold regular care planning meetings and case reviews in line with the Care Plan Approach (CPA). We transfer some service users back to their local NHS hospital, if a bed becomes available. Others remain with us until we can discharge them home, with appropriate levels of local follow-up and support.
The extensive therapy programme is run by four consultants supported by three speciality doctors providing round the clock cover.
Our accommodation is purpose-built in pleasant surroundings and offers single en-suite rooms throughout with our Therapy team, 5-Star accredited Catering Team and leisure facilities contributing to a comprehensive package of care.
At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we understand that service users view smoking as one of life’s few pleasures and that it’s an important part of their lives. This is why smoking is still permitted in designated outside areas at Cygnet Hospital Wyke.
At the same time nursing and medical staff also promote and facilitate smoking cessation sessions for all service users to help them quit smoking if they wish to.
At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we work with a number of quality measures which serve as frameworks for improving services and service user experiences within the hospital. At Cygnet Hospital Wyke we are committed to:
