Information for Visitors

At Cygnet Hospital Stevenage, the following visiting arrangements apply:

When looking to visit a family member or friend at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage we would encourage that you provide us with as much notice as possible (a minimum of 24 hours) to ensure that we can arrange one of our visitor rooms and a suitable member of staff.

Week day visits (Monday to Friday) are restricted to ensure that Service Users are available to engage in therapeutic activities on the ward.

Visiting times are as follows:

  • Monday to Friday - 16:00 to 19:00
  • Saturday and Sunday - 14:00 to 19:00

Please note that visits during these times are subject to staff and room availability.

If a child wishes to visit the hospital then we would require at least 1 to 2 weeks notice to ensure that all the required social services checks and permissions can be obtained. Please note that until the hospital has undertaken these checks the visit cannot take place.

What to expect on arrival

On arrival to Cygnet Hospital Stevenage you will be greeted by one of the reception staff who will then ask you to sign in as a visitor.

We reserve the right to search visitors if we believe that they may be bringing inappropriate things in with them.

Certain items, such as alcohol, medicines and sharp items may not be brought into the hospital. On arrival, you will be asked if you are carrying such items and, if so, you will be requested to leave them in your car or at reception.

Please see a list below identifying all contraband items:

  • Alcohol and illicit substances
  • Any sharp instruments or tools/gardening tools/knives and blades
  • Batteries
  • Canned drinks or canned food/home produced food and any food requiring heating or cooking
  • Chewing gum, blue tac and any adhesive substance
  • Cigarettes or tobacco products and lighters/matches
  • Cutlery (including plastic)
  • Detergents and chemical products i.e. cleaning products
  • Firearms or imitation firearms
  • Glass or bottles of any description including perfumes
  • Keys, household and car keys etc
  • Magnets
  • Manicure Sets / nail files
  • Medicines - liquid or tablet form
  • Metal coat hangers
  • Mobile phones, Audio/video recording equipment, Camera Phones / Cameras / USB / Binoculars
  • Needles for knitting / sewing
  • Needles & Pen devices for injecting Insulin
  • Plastic bags or cling film, tin foil
  • Pornographic material and inappropriate media (no certificate 18 or above)
  • Pressurized container/aerosols/perfume/deodorant sprays
  • Razor blades, disposable razors, scissors, steel combs
  • Shower scrunchies
  • Solvents, liquids, corrosive and or flammable liquids
  • Umbrellas
  • Wires, string, ropes, cords, Scarves and neckwear including jewellery etc

This list is not exhaustive. Items other than those listed above that are brought into the Hospital may be assessed as being potentially compromising to the security of the Hospital or to the safety of staff and patients. In instances such as this, these items will be removed by Hospital staff and stored in lockers for the duration of the visit.
