Information for Students

Cygnet Hospital Harrow offers placements to undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students who are hoping to pursue a career in the field of clinical or counselling psychology. The hospital has consistent educational links with the University of Westminster, City University and the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College.

Students form an integral part of the psychology department where they have access to regular individual and group clinical supervision. Students are able to gain valuable experience both by working individually and as part of the multi-disciplinary team setting. Students are involved in attending clinical team meetings including ward rounds, research and audit, devising and implementing clinical interventions.

Students have access to a variety of training including the prevention and management of violence, training on different mental health problems and diagnostic assessments. They also have the opportunity to learn about neuropsychological and psychometric assessments through training and observation.

Every effort is made to facilitate individual students training needs and requirements. Work is closely monitored by a clinical psychologist and tutors at respective universities.
