"Our son aged 39 has a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome and Disexecutive Syndrome. He lives with a family near Crediton under the umbrella of the South West Adult Placement Scheme and comes to us approximately every third weekend.
Since late 2009 he has been given the extra help and support of Cygnet Springside and we write to say how tremendously helpful this has been both to the Carers, ourselves and himself.
Our son is given 10 hrs support a week from Cygnet split between 4 hrs on a Monday and six on a Friday. His main Support Worker is Graham Burch. Since this support has been in place we have all noted an improvement in his confidence and general ability to cope with his problems, also he is more settled within himself.
Graham helps him deal with everyday tasks such as opening his post(something he felt unable to do before) and cleaning his room. This was difficult for his main carers as it would cause conflict. On the day he has 6 hrs support, he catches a bus to Exeter and Graham takes him out for the day, walking the coast or visiting garden centres etc if the weather is bad. Thanks to this exercise he is fitter and healthier. Graham has a really good way of communicating with him, cheery and positive which benefits him enormously.
Cygnet have helped him catch trains and busses which he found almost impossible a couple of years ago. Graham has helped put his bicycle back into working order and has played tennis and squash with him.
All in all, the help we have been given by Cygnet has been invaluable and we only hope that this will continue for as long as possible."
