Wyvern Unit:
Male Locked Rehabilitation

Our 15 bed Wyvern Unit provides a step down service for males who no longer require a low secure environment and would benefit from the ‘Recovery Model’ with community based activities. All direct admissions are assessed to ensure that they are suitable for this environment. Admission is as per referral protocol. Together with our Litchurch Ward, the Wyvern Unit forms part of our integrated male care pathway at Cygnet Hospital Derby.

Treatment is aimed at the following groups:

  • Those who require inpatient services due to their Mental Illness
  • Those who may have a history of involvement in the Criminal Justice System
  • Those who often present challenging behaviour, nuisance behaviour or self harm-neglect or vulnerability

Admission Criteria

  • Male aged 18+
  • Primary Diagnosis of Mental Illness
  • Those who are informal or have the appropriate level of leave may come and go as they choose
  • Those who are motivated to accept treatment and/or recognise the need for help
  • Those for whom an acceptably detailed Risk assessment has been completed and it is agreed by the MDT that the risks presented warrant an admission

A patient assessment visit can be arranged quickly by either phoning or faxing a completed referral form. Referrers will be notified of decisions verbally and in writing within 72 hours. Download Referral Form.
