New Dawn Ward provides specialist DBT services for women with personality disorder. The care pathway is structured in phases which include a comprehensive clinical, psychometric assessment and formulation within 4-6 weeks of admission.

Phase 1 is completed on New Dawn 1. During this phase commitment for the DBT programme is established, goals of care and treatment are identified for using DBT as the main therapy programme. Other structured interventions are used to support service users who are less motivated to move through the care pathway.
The treatment phase usually lasts 6-9 months takes place on New Dawn 2 which is a 6 bedded unit with specialist DBT trained psychologist and nurses. Each service user has an assigned DBT skills therapist working with them throughout the treatment phase.
The pre-discharge phase last for 2-3 months and is aimed at sustaining the skills and functioning achieved and assist service users to manage issues to sustain their recovery. This is followed by a CPA meeting which outlines the continuity and future care at the point of discharge.
In addition to the pathway of female services available at Cygnet Hospital Beckton, the hospital is also part of a larger network of Cygnet hospitals. Depending on need, service users on New Dawn can be transferred to either the New Dawn service at Cygnet Hospital Ealing or our female locked rehabilitation unit Cygnet Lodge Westlands, in Kenton.
Where appropriate we also work closely with Cygnet Supported Living to secure access to supported accommodation for service users.
