Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses art materials, such as paints, chalk and markers. Art therapy combines traditional psychotherapeutic theories and techniques with an understanding of the psychological aspects of the creative process, especially the affective properties of the different art materials. The Art Therapist at Beckton offers two types of groups: a slow-closed group and an open studio group so that service users can participate at point in their recovery journey.
Drama Therapy is a form of psychological therapy in which all of the performance arts are utilised within the therapeutic relationship. Drama therapists are both artists and clinicians and draw on their training in theatre/drama and therapy to create methods to engage service users in effecting psychological, emotional and social changes. Our drama therapists are also able to facilitate music groups.
