Autism Secure Care

Our Springs Unit, at Cygnet Hospital Harrow, offers designated low secure rehabilitation for associated mental health problems for adult males with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, we help service users become more independent, manage their mental health and behavioural problems, and develop adaptive living skills that will enable us to identify appropriate long-term placements.

The service is for male users between 18 and 65, who have had a formal diagnosis of autism, including Asperger's Syndrome, or who display autistic traits and need further assessment in a specialised setting. Individuals may also have challenging behaviour or a forensic history, or may be detained under the Mental Heath Act.

Drawing on a combination of therapies, including psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, social work and nursing, our multi-disciplinary team works to help each service user achieve their potential, while preserving their dignity and protecting their rights.

We also involve the family and significant others in the treatment plan, as we know this is important in helping the individual re-integrate back into their community.
