Children and Young People's Residential Care

Our Ofsted registered residential services are based in Stockport.

We provide the following types of service:

  • Short Break/Respite and Shared Care: We offer a short break and shared care service to children and young people aged 5-17 years from across the North West. The service is designed to provide a "home-from-home" environment where children and young people have the opportunity to interact with others, develop life, independence and communication skills, while also offering valuable respite for families. Young people generally access the service from between 2 nights per month up to 5/6 per week; we can also accept admissions on an emergency basis and can facilitate holiday stays.
  • Residential service and Long Term Placements: Offering a stable, settled environment for children and young people aged 5-17 years requiring full time placements. Person-centred and highly individualised support is provided in a welcoming, homely environment where young people are encouraged to make Springside their home. We can accommodate up to 6 young people.
  • Emergency Placements: Cygnet Springside offers an emergency bed placement within our short break residential service. We commit to confirming availability for admission within 2 hours of the initial call. Within the first 24 hours of a young person being admitted to the service, we undertake our own assessment of their support requirements, during which time we will provide 2:1 staffing support. Following this initial assessment of needs, and in conjunction with information provided by the referrer we adjust staffing levels and fees accordingly.

From the onset we commit to working in partnership with Local Authorities, referrers and other relevant stakeholders (CAMHS, advocacy etc) in order to ensure that the young person's ongoing care and support needs can be met.

In all our residential services, high levels of staffing, including 1:1/2:1 support where required afford for truly individualised support for each young person. The environments are designed specifically to be autism and learning-disability friendly including a sensory room in each service. We also have a large garden with trampoline, swings and climbing frame.

Our residential services offer:

  • A keyworker system, whereby identified key staff play a lead role in the young person's care and maintain regular contact with families, social workers or other relevant parties.
  • Person-centred care planning and risk assessment and regular monitoring and review of the service as standard.
  • Support from teams of staff who are experienced and trained.
  • Training for staff in specific areas where required, for example, certain communication methods.
  • Staff who are trained in PROACT-SCIPr-UK behaviour management techniques.
  • Private transport available for residents.
  • Access to hydrotherapy facilities.
  • Nearby public transport and local community shops, ideal for development of essential life skills and social skills.
  • A person-centred approach to care, with an emphasis on partnership working with schools/colleges and other professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for each young person.
  • Transition support, assisting young people to move as smoothly as possibly into adulthood.
