Recovery
Cygnet Health Care is committed to offering person centred services that support recovery.
Service users are at the heart of our work, giving them hope and the tools to live the lives they choose to lead is what we strive to achieve.
We are working in partnership with and learning from service users as we develop recovery orientated services. We have a Recovery Strategy that sets out how we intend to embed the philosophy of recovery into daily life and working practices. To help us do this we have developed a network of recovery leads and champions at staff and service user level throughout the organisation.
Examples of some of the recovery based initiatives underway:
- Recovery Leads and Staff and Service User Recovery Champions meet regularly to learn from each other and share best practice.
- All clinical staff and a number of service users have received Recovery Approach and Star training.
- Service users are being encouraged to work in partnership with Cygnet in a number of ways for example:
- Staff recruitment - service users sit on staff recruitment panels.
- Staff and service users working in partnership to design and develop a service user guide for each Cygnet Hospital.
- Some service users are chairing their own CPAs.
- The Recovery philosophy is being incorporated into recruitment, induction and appraisal processes.
- The Recovery Wall which shows examples of some of the personal recovery statements from our service users.
- Back to Work group - internet skills, CV writing and interview techniques for service users.
- Community inclusion programme - working with local voluntary organisations as well as educational centres - service users can continue these links when they are discharged into the community.
- Sponsored walk - staff and service users walking together to raise money for a mental health charity.
As an organisation we are embarking on a mutual recovery journey to support and inspire staff and service users to embrace the principles of recovery.
We aspire to recognise that each journey to recovery is as unique and diverse as the people taking part in it.
