Cygnet Hospital Stevenage announces major development plans

Following the recent purchase of land adjacent to Cygnet Hospital Stevenage for £2 million we are delighted to announce that this will be developed into additional day space for our service users.

As part of our drive to facilitate the rehabilitation of our service users, we wish to aid them in developing skills that will enable them to function well in the community thereby opening up employment opportunities for them.

Plans have been approved to develop the newly acquired land into areas including:

  • A full size sports pitch for MSU and LSU recreation.
  • Additional areas for grounds leave.
  • A horticultural area that will be a base for garden therapy.
  • A vocational centre. It is envisaged that the centre will house a number of areas including a café. This will be a valuable addition to our already extensive therapy timetable, and will enhance the employment possibilities of patients on their return to the community.

The works commenced in June and it is anticipated that they will be completed within 6 months.

In a further effort to create an environment that is homely and conducive to service user recovery, Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is also undergoing extensive refurbishment works which are due for completion by autumn 2010. These works will see all wards being repainted and refurnished. Our service users were actively involved in the choice of colour schemes and materials for their wards. These works will improve the setting in which the therapeutic work at Stevenage takes place.
