Cygnet Health Care is proud to announce several changes to services provided at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage. The changes in service have been carefully planned to meet the diverse needs of service users and commissioners in an ever changing healthcare environment, whilst at the same time vastly enhancing the service provision at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage.

Following consultation with service users, NHS commissioners, NHS senior clinicians, Cygnet Health Care staff and in line with the QIPP agenda, three key areas to improving services were identified:
Cygnet Hospital Stevenage will offer a symmetrical male and female care pathway, over six wards, working across three levels:
Medium Secure - Low Secure to a Locked Challenging Behaviour
The Locked Challenging Behaviour wards will effectively be pre-discharge wards set between low secure and locked rehabilitation. When a service user moves into one of these wards the funding will transfer away from the specialised Commissioning Team and emphasis will be placed on enabling the service user to move on as quickly as possible. It is anticipated that this will reduce secure lengths of stay by approximately 3 months.
Service users who may have personality disorder issues will benefit from our DBT and Schema Focus therapies provided on all six wards. This is designed to supplement the wide range of therapies already provided from a vast therapy team.
Dedicated substance misuse therapists will assess all admissions for our substance misuse programme and provide reports at all professional meetings. Prior to discharge wards will look to provide attendance at external AA and DA groups in order to facilitate continued attendance after discharge.
A vocational and training programme provides work experience and qualification to services users, who may leave with NVQs in housekeeping, catering, horticulture and a range of other skills. This vastly increases self esteem and provides a real opportunity to become a valued member of the workforce.
