On the Monday 17th August Cygnet Hospital Harrow are opening a brand new 5-bed step down unit. Called The Springs Centre, the new unit will be adjacent to the Springs Unit on the first floor of Byron Ward, Cygnet Hospital Harrow.
The centre is for adult males with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism, or other developmental disorders associated with difficulties with social understanding and behaviour (e.g. schizoid personality disorder). Patients will have a history of challenging behaviour and/or forensic presentations, but will be in a phase of their treatment requiring intensive rehabilitation to optimise their ability to function in the community independently. The service will also be used as a 'move on facility' for patients currently on the Springs Unit to facilitate their transition to more independent living. Suitable clients from other services NHS or Independent providers or direct from the community will be accepted.
On Friday 14th August there will also be an Open Day. This will provide an opportunity to tour the building and see the accommodation and facilities on offer and talk to nursing staff and consultants about the service.
