A group of service users on Hooper Ward, the female PICU unit at Cygnet Hospital Beckton, made the shortlist of finalists for this year's NAPICU Dragon's Den competition.
Their proposal, 'Computers... the possibilities are endless' was one of only three shortlisted from all the proposals submitted from PICUs across the country. Inital submissions had to be in writing to NAPICU (National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care & Low Secure Units). The aim of each submission was to improve the lives of services users on a ward or a project which would enhance the service user experience, support outcomes or encourage engagement.
In addition to the written proposal the ladies on Hooper Ward also designed the image below which is a representation of the goddess of learning, elevated by a computer, surrounded by symbols to represent different uses.
The final was held on 10th September at the 15th Annual NAPICU Conference where the proposal was presented by Caroline Fitzgerald, Head of Occupational Therapy at Cygnet Hospital Beckton.
While ultimately the Dragons chose a different proposal to be the winner it was still a fantastic achievement to get to the final. Well done to the ladies on Hooper Ward for their proposal and also to Caroline for more than holding her own when grilled by the Dragons.
