Following a successful inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) the new Lodge at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke is open and now accepting patients.
The Lodge is a new development at the 57 bed low secure hospital that was originally opened in September 2006. The Lodge is a 12-bedded "step down" unit within the hospital grounds which bridges the gap between hospital treatment and independent community living. We provide care and treatment for men who no longer require a locked inpatient service, but who do need continued support and help with aspects of their daily living so as to prepare them for a more independent life. The Lodge has a strong emphasis on recovery, independence and empowerment by promoting autonomy and responsibility.
The building itself is newly refurbished and situated within the grounds of the existing Hospital, at the top of a hill, with stunning views across the Bristol Channel towards the Welsh coastline. There is plenty of space within the house for therapeutic activity, but as the majority of the patients will be working towards independent living, most of the activities will be community-based. We anticipate that patients may move from our low secure wards to the Lodge as part of the rehabilitation process. In addition the service at the Lodge will be appropriate for men in acute adult inpatient wards and PICUs who require a longer stay in hospital but in a less restrictive environment.
The Lodge is not a home for life but a recovery based rehabilitation service aimed at fulfilling patients' potential for independent living.
