21 April 2011:
Karen completes the 2011 London Marathon and raises over £1200 for charity

Sunday 17th April saw London host the world's largest annual fundraising event and for one intrepid Cygnet Health Care team member was the climax of a gruelling 6 month training plan to run the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon.

Karen Topping, Cygnet's Marketing Development Manager, trained from a virtual non-runner to a veritable Forrest Gump in order to complete this famous running event for Mental Health charity, Rethink. Raising over £1200 and with not much but a few aches and blisters to show for it, Karen completed the course in just under 5 hours and 10 minutes.

"I am lucky enough to have my health and good mental health. I wanted a challenge through which I could help people less fortunate than myself, and what's more challenging than a marathon? Although the training has been tough, I thoroughly enjoyed running the marathon. The atmosphere was amazing - getting the chance to run through our capital city, passing some spectacular sights with the support from all the cheering crowds - I may even go as far as saying it was fun! But I think my aching legs would disagree!" Karen explained.
