On Saturday 22nd May, five thousand runners descended on London's Regent's Park for the Cancer Research UK 5km Race for Life. Among the crowds, were the Cygnet Girlies there to support such a worthy cause raising £625 (plus £100 of Gift Aid) with donations still flooding in.
Despite the hot weather, the Cygnet Girlies managed to resist the nearby sounds of the ice-cream vans to run, jog and walk the 5km. The scenic course took the racers around the park - passing the pedalos on the lake, the herons looking for their lunch in the stream, over bridges and around fountains, through the welcome shade under the trees, across the open spaces passing on looking picnickers and at all times being cheered on by the warmth of the supporters.
The participants sported many weird and wonderful costumes ranging from clown outfits, pink body paint, bunny ears and fairy wings - our Cygnet Girlies 'blinged' it up with blue t-shirts and shiny sequined caps providing some much needed shade from the sun and making them easy to spot among the sea of ladies dressed in pink.
The team's two runners, Nicky and Michelle, completed the course in under 30 minutes with Karen not far behind at 35 minutes. The walker's (Jane, Emma and Baby Holland) enjoyed a more relaxed pace and sauntered round the park coming in under the 1 hour mark. All fantastic times on one of the hottest days of the year so far!
The Cygnet Girlies would like to thank everyone for their support and donations. There is still time to donate at: www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/cygnetgirlies2010.
