28 June 11:
Cygnet Lodge Brighouse achieves AIMS accreditation

We are proud to announce that Cygnet Lodge Brighouse has achieved AIMS accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The AIMS (Accreditation of Inpatient Mental Health Services) Rehab pilot project is a national project developed to ensure best practice is being achieved in in-patient mental health services. Cygnet Lodge Brighouse is a locked rehabilitation unit for both men and women and is one of only two independent sector services to achieve AIMS accreditation.

An AIMS peer review team visited and assessed Cygnet Lodge Brighouse on 18th January 2011 looking at standards of care, current facilities, standards of documentation and health records, environmental facilities, staff training qualifications, support and supervision. The review team also conducted interviews with current service users discussing their impressions and experiences of the unit.

In addition to receiving accreditation Cygnet Lodge Brighouse has the following links with the AIMS project:

  • Senior Staff Nurse Sarah Kwinika from Cygnet Lodge Brighouse is on the Accreditation Advisory Committee at the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • An ex-service user and 4 staff from Cygnet Lodge Brighouse have trained as AIMS peer reviewers and have reviewed and lead reviews of units around the country.

AIMS is an ongoing project and we will be conducting another self review in January 2012 to ensure our high standards are still maintained before attempting to gain an accreditation of excellence by 2013.
