10 December 2009:
Cygnet Hospital Bierley to offer female psychiatric intensive care service

Cygnet Hospital Bierley is pleased to announce that they will be opening a female psychiatric intensive care unit on 1st February 2010.

Denholme ward will provide care and treatment within a locked environment for female service users who are over 18 and have an acute mental health problem which cannot be safely managed in an open environment.

The treatment programme is geared towards gaining control of the mental health problem as quickly as possible and stabilising the service user to enable them to be transferred to and managed effectively in an acute environment. Service Users are involved in planning their care and, where appropriate, families are encouraged to contribute alongside the referring team's clinicians.

We offer high quality care tailored to meet service users' individual needs which includes activities of daily living, diversional and focus activities, alongside a medication regime and multi-disciplinary assessment.

Prior to the official opening we are are holding a series of 'open days' to provide an opportunity for you to look around the unit and learn more about our existing services and let you see our new psychiatric intensive care unit for female patients. This service is now taking referrals, once the service commences we will be able to take referrals/admissions on a 24-hour basis.

The open days are as follows;

Monday 25 January (2pm - 4pm)
Tuesday 26 January (4pm - pm)
Thursday 28 January (10am - 12midday)
Friday 29 January (1pm - 3pm)
